If you have decided to go for a more established web presence and want to know how to make a website with your own domain name, steering clear of free blogs and free webpages then you will need to know the correct order in which to do things so as not to run into problems later. In this article I will go over the process of setting up your own domain from start to finish.
Domain name
First of all purchase your own domain name. This should be done from a reputable domain name supplier such as ‘enom’ or ‘GoDaddy’. You should check that you will be able to change the NAMESERVERS at will and that you will be able to transfer to another domain name provider freely if needs be. Domain names are paid on an annual basis and you should not have to pay more than $15 (be wary of very cheap offers as there is almost always a catch). The average price is around the $10 mark.
Hosting
You will need a webhosting company to be able to host your domain name and to give you space to host your pages. You should be given a sizable amount of disc space, several (if not unlimited) email accounts at your own domain and a decent amount of bandwidth. You should be given instructions by your webhost as to how to configure your domain name. They will give you the names of their NAMESERVERs and you will then go to your domain name supplier and configure your domain name to ‘point to’ the NAMESERVER your hosting company has given you. This might take up to 24 hours to take effect though in some cases is immediate.
Two reputable web hosting companies you might want to consider are iPowerWeb.com and IX Web Hosting
Webpages
You can now go a head and design your website and upload your web pages and images to your new server. and
I recommend using either Dreamweaver or Xsite Pro. High Quality instructive tutorials for dreamweaver are available (see the article below on how to make a website).
