How to make your own website is explained here in very basic terms… for those who are new to web site building and have little idea this is more or less the process.
- You design you pages and build them on your computer.
- You upload them to a web server.
- You view the pages by typing in the address of your webpages on the server.
Building the Pages:
The pages are built using a simple scripting language called html.
It is not necessary to know how to use html as there are many html editors available. A html editor allows you to create a web page as if you were creating a word document by typing in the text you want, formatting it and adding images.
Hosting the Pages:
You will need some sort of web hosting to be able to put your webpages on a web server. Most low budget web hosting gives you space for your webpages and images and allows you to host your own domain name. The most common way to make your own website is to buy a domain name and register it so it points to your web host’s server that way your site can be found by typing in www.yoursite.com in any browser.
Uploading the Pages:
The way that files are uploaded from your computer to the server is normally via a process known as FTP (file transfer protocol). There are special programs available that do just this but most of the html editor software has ftp features included so you can upload to your server as you create the pages.
HTML Editors:
Two of the most widely used editors are Adobe’s Dreamweaver and Xsite-Pro. X-site Pro is easy to use and includes routines for checking the seo (search engine optimization) of your pages to make them 100% search engine friendly
Dreamweaver is much more complicated to learn and use but is much more complete and much more versatile. There are several books and videos however that contain excellent tutorials on how to use the program and will have you building websites in a matter of hours.
